Barnes Courtney played an inspired set the other night at Terminal 5 in New York.
Opening for the Kooks, the British-born Courtney is a natural and self-possessed performer and he radiates charisma and charm.
Courtney’s winning debut album The Attractions Of Youth hit in 2017 and if his latest singles (“99” and “Good Thing”) are any indication, his upcoming sophomore release should be massive.
Theatrical, fiery and clearly comfortable in front of a crowd, Courtney’s set was a crunchy blast of Britpop and inspired indie rock anthems. “London Girls” was catchy and infectious; “Never Let You Down” was truly inspired and “Fire” was nothing short of cathartic.
