Bakersfield, California-based dream-pop duo Fawns of Love is just one of the many talented shoegaze, dream-pop, and alternative music artists lending their voice and sonic vision to the new compilation album titled Alternative Acts (there’s actually a letter F placed in front of Acts, but it’s crossed out as a pointed message to the current US Presidential administration that uses egregiously incorrect ‘alternative facts’).
The 18-track compilation is the brainchild of Cory Osborne (Lightfoils, Panda Riot), along with the support of dozens of musicians and graphic artists, and is available as the only label issue of Greg Wilson’s DKFM Shoegaze Radio, which is not a record label, but a radio station.
Alternative Acts was created in the wake of the shocking (in a bad way) outcome of the US Presidential election. The artists involved with the album are in opposition to tyranny and support civil liberties and women’s health. All proceeds from the album’s sale will be evenly split between Planned Parenthood and the A.C.L.U.
The husband and wife duo of Joseph and Jenny Andreotti record as Fawns of Love (a twist on Kate Bush’s adored Hounds of Love album) and has contributed “Please”, an exclusive song to this compilation. It’s a gloriously heightened dream-pop number overflowing with reverb-drenched and chiming guitar lines, wavering synths spin, a softly muffled drum beat, and the sweet arch and fall of Jenny’s aerial vocals. Fawns of Love self-released its debut album, Who Cares About Tomorrow, on March 3rd.
Fawns of Love definitely does care about tomorrow and being part of this stellar compilation is the Andreotti’s statement, be it political and/or social, that what is happening in the United States of America under President Trump’s administration is not right.
