2018 is already upon us, so before the year advances even more, here are my favorite alternative music videos of 2017.

A happy new year to all you SEM readers and looking forward to more music in 2018!

Los Angeles based musical pioneer John Fryer and Black Needle Noise, let out in early December the astonishing single/video “System Bi” featuring the exotic voice of Senegalese Fakeba singing in her own native language!

Last May the French electronic musician/producer Astrobal checked in with “Australasie” featuring the enchanting voice of ex-Stereolab’s singer Laetitia Sadier!

Morrissey’s “Spent the Day in Bed” came out on October 17 and it’s drearily cheerful.

Kiev-based On The Wane is perhaps the coolest gem from Ukraine with their signature noir garage rock. Angry to the bone, but delivered in a sugar pill, “Sultry Song” is off their brilliant Schism LP!

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club returned with an excellent record in 2017 and here’s the “Little Thing Gone Wild” video!

Somewherecold Records and Label Obscura released the LCD from Ukrainian-Canadian duo Ummagma last September, crowned by this great mix by Cocteau Twin’s Robin Guthrie. Curve legend Dean Garcia also features on two tracks, making this one big dream-gave love-in.

Sweden’s Makthaverskan guitar-pop foursome published their new, totally fresh and kinky Ill LP, and here are two songs from it performed live.

Colin Moulding and Terry Chambers, the rhythmic powerhouse of British art pop-rock legends XTC, have released a new EP under the tongue-in-cheek moniker TC&I. “Scatter Me” explores death in good English fashion, but with a light before that tunnel!

New York’s alternative-indie-pop and quite avant-garde artist/singer/performer Rachel Mason let out her new “Time To Resign feat. Donald Trump” on December 7, a parody song under her moniker Clown Version!

From the island of Rhodes in Greece, Paradox Obscur who plays minimal electro darkwave electro, put out a collaborative and captivating album called Artifact in September.

Equinox from Manchester, is a captivating spoken word artist this track features Feral Five.

Seattle’s Symbion Project plays classic alternative electronic pop in this 360video for “Bloodthirsty.”

Vancouver’s cold-wave post-punks ACTORS check in with their groovy and so catchy “How Deep is the Hole.”

Last August New York anti-folk punks American Anymen released the caustic, acidic and marvelous  Flag Burner EP.

Philadelphia’s indie rockers Tulipomania’s “On The Outside” is one of their catchiest yet.

Italy again, this time in Treviso with the amplified alternative rockers NEIL and Blank Sheet.

MIS+RESS from New Jersey who plays experimental music with only a guitar and a handful of effects pedals let out one of the most interesting S/T LPs in 2017.

Fresh, melodic and indie-rock-oriented music by The Dayoffs from New York.

An excellent jazzy tune for the car, New York’s A Tree Grows and Future Calculations.

A loud rockin’ song by CUP, Apparition, with a very nice video too
