Christina Grimmie of “The Voice” Dead At 22

Written by:

Stereo Embers has learned that Christina Grimmie has died.

She was 22.

A former contestant on “The Voice,” Grimmie was signing autographs alongside the band Before You Exit after a performance at Plaza Live when the incident occurred. Grimmie was shot by a man who produced two guns and immediately started firing.

Although the singer was taken immediately to the hospital where she was listed in critical condition, she died from the wounds a few hours after being admitted.

It’s not clear how an armed man was able to be granted entrance into the venue, but the Orlando Police Department is crediting Grimmie’s brother for ensuring that nobody else was harmed. Her brother was able to tackle the assailant and force him to the ground.

Although the sequence of events is unclear, the assailant shot himself after being tackeld and was later pronounced dead.

A third place contestant on the 2014 season of “The Voice,” Grimmie was mentored by Adam Levine of Maroon 5.

A native of New Jersey, Grimmie was half Italian and half Romanian and was not only a great singer, she was also a skilled pianist, drummer and guitar player. Using YouTube as a way of getting known, Grimmie started uploading her work on the channel when she was just 15. Her version of Nelly’s “Just A Dream”–which she performed alongside Sam Tsui–has garnered almost 130 million views.

She was managed by Selena Gomez’s stepfather Brian Teefey.

Her newest EP was called Side A and it was released in February, 2016.
